Chongqing Weather
Located in the southwest of China, Chongqing has a subtropical climate. The weather in Chongqing can be warm in early spring, hot summer, and cool autumn with long periods of rain and warmer winter with heavy clouds. The annual average temperature is 18℃. The average minimum temperature in winter is about 6 °C (43 °F). The average in summer is about 31 °C (90 °F) in July and August. Chongqing is famous being hot and known as one of the “three furnaces” together with Wuhan and Nanjing.
Every year when spring transitions to summer, there are many rainy nights so the city is famous for its “night rain in the Ba Mountains”. Chongqing has 100 fogy days a year, so it is also known as “foggy city” and it has the lowest annual sunshine in China.
The hottest months, July and August are also the rainiest. The rain, humidity and high temperatures in summer can make it uncomfortable.

Spring
Spring comes early at end of February to early May. The temperature changes frequently. It may warm up for a few days and then turns cold again. A light overcoat should be part of a wardrobe for a trip to Chongqing in the spring. Spring is also best season to see flowers - rape flower in Tongnan, Peony in Dianjiang and Peach blossom on Tiger Peak Mountain.
Summer
Summer is a long in Chongqing from June to September lasting for 120 – 140 days. With an average temperature around 31 C (90 F), it is hot and rainy. Take light clothing, sunglasses and remember to drink plenty of water when you’re outside. It always a good time for a Yangtze River Cruise.
Autumn
From October to November is autumn in Chongqing. Pleasant and cool, it is a good time to visiting Chongqing and takes a Yangtze River cruise. It is mostly cloudy and can be rainy and temperature difference between day and night is large. A light jacket and long-sleeved shirt are required.
Winter
Winter is from December to January. It is cool and grey but seldom snows. The temperature average is about 6 C (43 F) in this Season. Warm jackets are a must.
