People's Great Hall

Great Hall of the People The Chongqing People's Great Hall, or Chongqing People's Auditorium, was constructed between the years 1951 and 1954, first known as the Sino-Soviet Building at the time and it resembles Beijing's Temple of Heaven in its appearance, particularly the dome, while the front entrance resembles that of the Tiananmen Square in Beijing.

The entire People's Great Hall is an expansive complex which is collectively made up of the People's Square, a grand auditorium as well as the People's Hotel, with its most striking feature being the upward-stretching, 55-metre building, supported by winged columns.

The huge square (plaza) in front of the building, which was erected in 1997, makes for an interesting recent addition to the Hall, which follows the East Wing, another recent addition, which was completed in 1986.

The People's Great Hall is intended to blend in with a collection of nearby attractions as well, including the Three Gorges Museum, where visitors to the People's Great Hall like to stopover to view some of the dinosaur skeletons, before enjoying the night light spectacle held at the People's Great Hall, which depicts a unique architectural style that is a mixture of Chinese and Soviet styles.
