Ciqikou Old Town

Ciqikou Old Town Ciqikou Old Town is perched on a hill and it offers a magnificent view of the Jialing River in Chongqing Area. It is a century old town that features well-restored buildings that take back travelers to the distant past. Visiting Ciqikou Old Town offers excellent cultural experience. History

The history of the city was believed to have started during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. During 1368 – 1911, Ciqikou was popular in all of China for being one of the best porcelain manufacturers in the country. During that time, the town was called Porcelain Village.

Most of the houses in the town, which highlights Chinese architecture, date back from the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Most of them were created using timber, bamboo, blue bricks, lattice windows, and vermillion doors. Most of the gates are adorned using black lanterns and tablets that make the properties look very traditional.

Major Attractions

The most famous attractions there are tea bars, Shu embroidery workshops, and various artists’ studios.

Hundreds of tea bars line different streets and these are perfect for friends to enjoy a chat or just simply relax and enjoy the laid back atmosphere. Different bars have different characteristics but most offer authentic Chinese tea which is known to be soothing and extremely refreshing. Teahouses also offer visitors the opportunity to meet locals and be acquainted with the unique folk opera.

Shu embroidery is an art craft that is very popular in China. It is performed using colored thread and needle to stitch and prick fabrics, which include nylon, satin, silk, thin silk, yarn, and hemp.

Various artists’ studios are also found in Ciqikou. The laid-back atmosphere inspires artists to be more creative. Travelers are impressed with the quality of work of the artists there. Some of them also take the time to be on the local scenes to show their skill and dedication. Many great artists’ works available there definitely make the process of choosing the best souvenir a little difficult.

Looking for restaurants that serve amazing, delectable local dishes is no problem in Ciqikou old town as there are several eateries to choose from. Must-try local dishes include Qian Zhang Pi, Mao Xue Wang, and JiaoYan Huang Sheng. These are all highly recommended by both locals and travelers.
